Here's to kitchen expirements.

Those who know me, know I can not cook. And they greatly prefer that I don't. But I can bake your pants off! And today was a special day to try something new. Sister turned 12 last Wednesday and wanted us to do bbq for dinner. We decided that we would wait until we could have other parts of our family over and share a big wonderful meal together.

I knew I was going to make vegan cupcakes. I use Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, and I thought I would keep it simple and light by using the Vanilla Cupcakes. I thought I might make the Raspberry Buttercream frosting, using raspberry syrup (like for coffee). And then I eyed my Lavender Syrup and realized that a lighter version could be made. I added lavender essential oil to the oil in the cupcake recipe, about 2 drops was enough. It adds a very light background flavor that is sweet and earthy at the same time. I then substituted the lavender syrup for the raspberry in the frosting. So over all the flavor is light and summery.

I think I am back

And I am also pretty sure I am better than ever. I am spending the next couple of days cleaning and giving away. Sharing my wealth, such as it is, with those who are in need. That is my hope. I am giving away, or gifting away, all of the things that I do not use any more and do not need any more.

I turned 40 on Sunday. And I feel amazingly good about it. I was surrounded by people who love me and who support me in what I do. They offer to me only words of support and encouragement. I told a new friend this week, that I feel as though I am finding the people who were supposed to be in my life all along.

So, now with a bunch of birthdays behind us and the summer stretching out before us, I think we can get down to some serious work. Part of the giving away feels like bringing in. I give away that which I don't need, both literally and figuratively, so that I can bring to me the things I want. Getting rid of the chaos and drama and dishonesty, so that there is only room for art and creativity and fun and adventures, as well as a little peace and joy.

Where Did The Time Go...

Well, I was sick a chunk of last week. And since then I feel like I have been running full speed just to stay with the pack.

I am turning 40 a week from today. And believe it or not, I am excited about it. Age for me isn't a big deal. This year we are doing a big party. Friends and family are coming from all over to celebrate what is a pretty great life.

So if I am not around for a bit, I would guess I am recovering.

A couple of finished projects

That is all I really have time to post, because I am actually and honestly adding to the etsy.com shop.
This is the finished version of the bottle cap thing I posted a couple of days ago. It looks amazing. I may make another one for Sissy for her birthday.

Here are two new brooches.

Friday already?

Well, my, my, how did it get to be Friday already? Certainly not because I have been particularly productive. On the other hand, I did go out to lunch with an awesome lady (who needs to remember just how awesome she really is!), and thanks to her and some other great people in my life, I am finding my laugh again.
This next week Sissy is having her twelve birthday party. The opening pic and the pic above are of her invitations. She picked the paper, I did the rest. The snowflake brads were a nice solution to the attachment problem. And since I don't do a lot of snow pages here in the rainy land, I got to use a product that otherwise would have just sat there.

I started a different project. I have been collecting bottle caps from various beer bottles for quite awhile now. Not that I have a lot, because no one in this house really drinks beer. But, it has come time to use them. I toyed with the idea of something on canvas. But the more I shuffled them around the less I liked the idea. Then I found this plain black frame with no glass or back. From there it was a no brainer for me. The following picture is the result.

Nothing is firmly attached, because I cannot find my stapler, which is how I will be attaching the wire.I love it and may not part with it. Or I might make a bunch. Which means I need to start drinking more beer!
